![]() AMD explains that this is simply a balance between the given performance improvement and the actual implementation complexity – reminding us that particularly in the enterprise market there’s the option to use memory pages larger than your usual 4K size that are the default for consumer systems. The L2 DTLB has also remained at 2K entries which is interesting given that this would now only cover 1/4 th of the 元 that a single core sees. AMD counts this up to 72 by counting the 28-entry address generation queue. Oddly enough, the load queue has remained at 44 entries even though the core has 50% higher load capabilities. On the actual load/store units, AMD has increased the depth of the store queue from 48 entries to 64. In this regard, the new Zen3 microarchitecture should do significantly better in workloads with high memory sparsity, meaning workloads which have a lot of spread out memory accesses across large memory regions. Table-walkers are usually the bottleneck for memory accesses which miss the L2 TLB, and having a greater number of them means that in bursts of memory accesses which miss the TLB, the core can resolve and fetch such parallel access much faster than if it had to rely on one or two table walkers which would have to serially fulfil the page walk requests. AMD has improved the load to store forwarding to be ablet to better manage the dataflow through the L/S units.Īn interesting large upgrade is the inclusion of 4 additional table walkers on top of the 2 existing ones, meaning the Zen3 cores has a total of 6 table walkers. The core now has a higher bandwidth ability thanks to an additional load and store unit, with the total amount of loads and stores per cycle now ending up at 3 and 2. To be able to make sure that memory isn’t a bottleneck, AMD has notably improved the load/store part of the design, introducing some larger changes allowing for some greatly improved memory-side capabilities of the design. You can join the discussion on AMD's Zen 3 Milan series processors using DDR4 memory on the OC3D Forums.Section by Andrei Frumusanu The New Zen 3 Core: Load/Store and a Massive 元 CacheĪlthough Zen3’s execution units on paper don’t actually provide more computational throughput than Zen2, the rebalancing of the units and the offloading of some of the shared execution capabilities onto dedicated units, such as the new branch port and the F2I ports on the FP side of the core, means that the core does have more actual achieved computational utilisation per cycle. With each new Zen architecture, AMD plans to eliminate more shortcomings within their designs, hoping to eliminate all of Intel's performance advantages over time to deliver "IPC (or better) parity across all workloads." AMD has already committed to utilising a "7nm+" manufacturing process to create their next-generation Ryzen and EPYC series CPUs, with Zen 3 aiming to remove for "asterisks" from the company's processor designs. 2020's Ryzen 4th Generation processors are likely to be the last AMD CPUs to use DDR4 memory. With Milan supporting DDR4 and the same SP3 socket as today's EPYC processors, it seems likely that AMD's Zen 3 desktop processors will also continue to utilise DDR4 memory. ![]() "DDR5 is a different design," and as such it will require a new CPU socket from AMD. In this interview, AMD's Forrest Norrod also confirmed that their Zen 3 "Milan" processors would support the SP3 server socket, which is the same as what's currently used for the company's EPYC and EPYC 2nd Generation processors, confirming that "Milan" will also support DDR4 memory. With Zen 2 "Rome" processors, AMD plans to up their DDR4 memory support from 2666MHz to an unknown higher speed, which AMD's Forrest Norrod stating that "you do get more than DDR4-2666" in a recent interview with Anandtech. Moving forward, AMD plans to continue to innovate within the CPU market, with plans to release "Zen 3" processors in mid-2020 with their "Milan" server parts. AMD's Zen 2 series of processors will soon be upon us, bringing with them higher core counts, heightened efficiency and increased IPC. ![]()

In some states like New Jersey, where there is a 15-round limitation on mag size, you can buy conversion kits that can render twenty and thirty-round mags into 15-round mags. The 100-round drums were made by Beta C-Mag and I am not sure if they are still in production, but Ruger and Pro-Mag both make a variety of magazines for the gun. The gun takes five, ten, twenty, and thirty-round magazines as well as 100-round drum magazines. Keep in mind this shoots the same round as any modern sporting rifle, better known as the AR-15. The old-school look also looks less menacing to people that know nothing about guns. When you add the modern tactical style stocks the gun, it loses a lot of its charm, in my opinion. There are also a variety of companies that make aftermarket stocks for the gun. Ruger does make variants of the Mini-14 and Mini-30 (7.62×39 variant) that have tactical-style folding stocks with picatinny rails. This rifle instead has a traditional wooden stock that you would expect to find on a bolt action hunting rifle. This gun does not have a pistol grip like most modern semi-automatic AR-15 or other rifles in that category like FN-scars, FN-Cs, Bushmaster ACR, etc. It is somewhat of an ambidextrous feature even though it slightly favors right-handed shooters. The good news is the safety can be used equally well for both right- and left-handed shooters. I think we can all agree, it’s outdated by today’s standards. To re-engage the safety, you must put your fire finger in front of the trigger guard and push the safety back. To disengage the safety, you must stick your hand inside the trigger guard and then press forward with your trigger finger to disengage. The safety itself is a piece of sheet metal. The most outdated feature has to be the safety that resides within the trigger guard. Price Check: Grab A Gun | Primary Arms | PSA | Brownells | Safety This makes it a great stand-in for the AR-15 in certain states like California, where they might have unconstitutional and restrictive laws. The 18.5-inch ranch rifle is what many would call featureless meaning it doesn’t have a pistol grip, flash hider, or bayonet lug. The current Mini 14 is an 18.5-inch ranch rifle with a 1/9 twist. It’s important to note this because the current production Mini-14’s seem to have shed the issues of the past. And it has had its fair share of issues including accuracy and reliability, but the Mini-14 we are talking about today is a current production version. There have been numerous Mini 14 variations since 1973. They were also considered less militaristic, thus less intimidating to the public. Many agencies adopted the Mini 14 because they were cheaper than AR15’s, like the Colt SP01 during that time period. However, Rhodesia used the Mini-14 during their Bush War.ĭomestic police agencies here in the US, from small Sheriff’s Offices to Departments of Corrections, have adopted the Mini-14 and used them for years. The Mini-14 has been adopted by some small foreign militaries and coast guards that predominantly haven’t been involved in a conflict. Initially, Ruger’s goal was to develop the Mini 14 to get military contracts due to the initial issues with the AR-15 or M-16, but that never went anywhere. The Mini-14 was originally marketed to both sportsmen and government agencies, like the military and police, during its early days. Interestingly enough, Jim Sullivan is most famous for his work with the Mini-14’s main competitors, the AR-15. I managed to build a deck around a couple cards that buff skeletons - one is an enchantment (I'm blanking on the name) that forces you to attack with all your skeletons each turn, but also gives them a bonus to power equal to the number of skeletons you have, and then if a creature dies on your turn, you get two skeleton tokens at the end of it (I think you might get one if nothing dies.) There's another card, something Priest of Myrkul, which buffs vampries, zombies, and skeletons by +1/+1, and then if a creature dies on a turn, you can pay 1 mana to make a skeleton token.Īnyway, I'm eager to see what big strategies become popular with this set. If you stack this effect on a lot of creatures, it can be quite amazing, but again, knowing where you want to go is important. Naturally, the archetypes of the Strixhaven/Kaldheim era are still quite prevalent, and my cobbled-together decks have been a mixed bag (I only burned one Mythic/Rare wildcard to get a second Xanathar.) You can definitely build a deck around Venture into the Dungeon, but I'd recommend figuring out your best dungeon path ahead of the game to make sure you make good decisions in the window you have. I built a couple decks around cards I got. Not sure if Richard Garfield was considering that when he came up with Magic.)Īnother theme, found I believe only in Red and Green, is "pack tactics," where creatures get a special bonus effect if the total power of your attacking creatures is six or more. There's also a pretty strong theme of dragons, unsurprisingly, with a fair number of cards caring about dragons, and dragons in every color (which just so happen to correspond with the five "chromatic" dragon types from D&D, conveniently enough. I've found that the Rogue one is great for a classic Dimir Rogue/Mill deck. There is also a set of Class enchantments that are often pretty good to start with but will get better as you "level them up," which just costs mana and has to be done at sorcery speed. Second, we have the d20 - there are cards that have you roll a d20, always getting a reasonably useful effect, but getting better ones with higher rolls (and usually a crazy good one with a Nat 20.) There are also some cards that give you advantage on the roll, letting you roll twice and take the higher result. There are cards that also care if you've completed a dungeon, so picking one of the shorter ones can be important for those. ![]() There are a few themes running through the set:įirst off is Venture into the Dungeon, a keyword ability that lets you choose one of three dungeons to move "room to room" in, each room having a different effect.
